Two-Step Conversion of CO2 to Light Olefins: Laboratory-Scale Demonstration and Scale-Up Considerations

The highly selective production of light olefins from CO2 was demonstrated for the first time with a laboratory-scale process comprising consecutive reverse water gas shift (RWGS) and Fischer–Tropsch (FT) reactors. RWGS reaction, catalyzed by rhodium washcoated catalyst at 850 °C yielded good quality syngas conversion values close to thermodynamic equilibrium without experiencing deactivation carbon formation or sintering. For FT synthesis, packed bed Fe-Na-S/?-Al2O3 used. highest olefin selectivity observed FT-synthesis 52% 310 °C, GHSV 2250 h?1 H2/CO ratio 1. However, optimal conditions were determined be 340 3400 2, as CO markedly higher, while remained suitably high level. In addition experimental results, considerations further optimization development system are presented. combined RWGS–FT seems work reasonably well, initial data basic design modeling produced.
